Error when Using Windows Receiver PNAgent through Access Gateway Enterprise Edition Appliance.

Symptoms or Error

When accessing PNAgent through Access Gateway Enterprise Edition appliance, any of the following issues can occur:

  • Windows Receiver Enterprise appears to timeout upon startup (in the system tray), but after a few seconds the client connects successfully.

  • Application fails to open intermittently.

  • Application enumeration seems to refresh randomly.

Receiver for Windows Enterprise (or Online Plugin) is a client for Windows that gives support for legacy PNAgent access. The PNAgent access can be used for purposes, such as migration to Storefront, earlier Receiver versions that do not support StoreFront services protocol, Receiver for Linux/Unix, and VDI-in-a-box. However, the protocol might lose additional functionality with the continued enhancements and new versions of Citrix products.

Solution

Use one of the following workarounds to resolve the issue:

  • Use Storefront: Transition towards StoreFront services protocol away from PNAgent. Implement Storefront in the environment and replace client endpoints that have Online Plugin or Receiver for Windows Enterprise with Receiver for Windows. Also, starting with VDI-in-a-Box 5.2, VDI-in-a-Box supports integration with Storefront.

    • StoreFront gives the most functionality while allowing authentication to take place at the Access Gateway Enterprise Edition appliance.
    • Refer to the CTX133185 - Citrix StoreFront - Implementation Guide.

  • Workaround on NetScaler Appliance: Use an Access Gateway Enterprise Edition virtual server with authentication disabled and only the PNAgent session policy bound to it with expression ns_true.

  • Workaround on NetScaler Appliance: Use a Load Balancing virtual server for authentication or enumeration and use an Access Gateway Enterprise Edition virtual server to open the application. You must configure the Access Gateway Enterprise Edition virtual server with any of the following configurations:

    • Configure the virtual server on another port using same FQDN or same certificate.

    • If you do not want to use non-standard ports then configure the virtual server on another IP address using a different FQDN or different certificate.

  • Workaround: Users can access the Web Interface externally for authentication or enumeration and use an Access Gateway Enterprise Edition virtual server to open the application. This workaround is similar to preceding Workaround. However, you can use this workaround when the Load Balancing component is not a licensed such as with Access Gateway Enterprise Edition VPX licensing. You must configure the Access Gateway Enterprise Edition virtual server with any of the following configurations.

    • Configure the virtual server on another port using same FQDN or same certificate.

    • If you do not want to use non-standard ports then configure the virtual server on another IP address using a different FQDN or different certificate.
