XDPing tool

Description

The XDPing tool is a command-line based application which automates the process of checking for the causes of common configuration issues in a XenDesktop environment. The tool can be used to verify configuration settings on both the XenDesktop Broker and VDA machines, both from the console and remotely.

Depending on how the tool is run, and from where, the following checks and information can be displayed:

  • Information and status of Network Interfaces and Network settings. (Console Only)
  • Performs DNS lookup and reverse lookup on the IP address of the device.
  • Information on Time synchronization and time check for Kerberos Authentication (Console Only)
  • User information for login User (Console Only)
    Including User details, Authentication type used, Group Membership.
  • Machine information (Console Only)
    Environment information (Computer Name, operating system version, Domain)
    Domain membership verification (Membership = Verified, SID:S-X-X-XX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXX [OK])
  • Information on XenDesktop Services (Windows Communication Foundation Endpoints) installed and confirms if each installed service is responsive. (Console Only)
  • Displays information on the Windows Firewall installed on the VDA and checks if the important ports are configured correctly.
  • Queries the local event log to check for known events that are related to XenDekstop.
  • Provides client bandwidth and response time information from the VDA to the client.

Prerequisites

XenDesktop 2.1 or later.

Installing XDPing

Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder.

Note: This tool was tested on XenDesktop 2.1, 3.x, 4.0, 5.x, & 7.x releases

Known issues

The Execution of this tool from a network share, including full UNC paths, is not supported. If XDPing is executed from a network path, this results in the tool failing to execute correctly.

How to Use XDPing

  1. Open a console session on the machine you wish to use the tool on.
  2. Type XDPing /Help to list available options.

Example

xdping /host MyDDC01 MyDDC02.citrix.com myDDC03

(The above command performs DNS forward and reverse lookups, and a check of the WCF service running on each target machine specified)

Options

/Help

Displays the list of available options for the tool.

/Host

Specify specific remote hosts to perform DNS resolution checks and verify key WCF services

/Citrix/VirtualDesktopAgent/IConfiguration for Desktops(VDA) or
/Citrix/CdsController/IRegistrar
on Controlers(Brokers)

are available and responding. If mulipule hosts are specified on the command line, each should be separated by a space.

/host MyDDC01 MyDDC02.citrix.com myDDC03

/CheckAllDCTimes

When running the tool locally, if this option is specifed, the time on all DCs in the local Windows domain is checked. If any are found to be out of synchronization by 3 minutes, a warning or error is flagged.

/Firewall

Diplays detailed information on the configuation of the Window Firewall.

/ConfigFirewall

Configures the firewall to enable the VDA to be able to communicate correctly

/ExportEvents

This flag has been disabled in this version.

If no options are specified, data for the local machine where the tool is running is returned.
