This article describes how to enable the logging process in XenDesktop.

Objective

This article describes how to enable the logging process for XenDesktop which is disabled as per the design.

You can enable the logging process on the Desktop Delivery Controller (Controller) and Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) to collect log files for XenDesktop. You can also enable the OverwriteLogFile value in the configuration files. Enabling the OverwriteLogFile value overwrites the log file each time the service is started.


Instructions

To enable the logging process for XenDesktop, complete the following procedures:

Enabling Logging on VDA

To enable to the logging process on VDA, complete the following procedure:
  1. Create the C:\XDLogs directory on the VDA.

  2. For XenDesktop 7.x, open the BrokerAgent.exe.config file in a text editor and save a backup copy.

  3. For XenDesktop 5.x, open the WorkstationAgent.exe.config file in a text editor and save a backup copy.

    Note: The BrokerAgent.exe.config or the WorkstationAgent.exe.config file is available in %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\Virtual Delivery Agent\.

  4. Replace the existing <appSettings> section of the BrokerAgent.exe.config or the WorkstationAgent.exe.config file with the following code:

     <appSettings> <add key="LogToCDF" value ="1"/> <add key="LogFileName" value ="c:\XDLogs\vda_log.log"/> <add key="OverwriteLogFile" value ="1"/> </appSettings>
  5. Save and close the file.

  6. Restart the desktop to initiate logging.??

Enabling Logging on Controller (XenDesktop 4)

To enable the logging process on?? Controller (XenDesktop 4), complete the following procedure:

  1. Create the C:\XDLogs directory on?? Controller.

  2. Change the security settings on the XDLogs directory to give Full Control permissions to Network Service.

  3. Open the CdsController.exe.config file in a text editor and save a backup copy.

    Note: The CdsController.exe.config file is available in %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\Desktop Delivery Controller\

  4. Replace the existing <appSettings> section of the CdsController.exe.config file with the following code:

     <appSettings> <add key="LogToCDF" value ="1"/> <add key="LogFileName" value ="c:\XDLogs\controller_log.log"/> <add key="OverwriteLogFile" value ="1"/> </appSettings>
  5. Save and close the file.

  6. Open the CdsPoolMgr.exe.config file in a text editor.

  7. Replace the existing <appSettings> section of the CdsPoolMgr.exe.config file with the following code:

     <appSettings> <add key="LogToCDF" value ="1"/> <add key="LogFileName" value ="c:\XDLogs\pool_log.log"/> <add key="OverwriteLogFile" value ="1"/> </appSettings>
  8. Save and close the file.

  9. Restart?? Controller?? to initiate logging.
